The Beauty Edit: 7 Things You NEED For the Party Season

The party season is looming upon us! Before we know it we will be at the office party watching our (normally rather quiet) managers dancing on tables and cringing the next morning.

However, there is one thing that goes hand-in-hand with the party season, and that my friends is makeup-on-the-go.

In my party edit, I have compiled a smorgasbord of handy dandies to get you through the surprise drinks after work and the 'OMG makeup meltdowns' before parties. It's okay girl, I got you.

First off you will need a mini brush set (preferably with dual ended brushes) in a cute case for last minute touch ups. Bobbi Brown make some of the best on the market and are fantastic value for money. Plus, you will gain points from your work wifey when you look like you totally have the situation under control.

Before I touch on makeup - skincare and fragrance are equally this important. Now I'm not going to lecture you on the subject of taking care of your skin (I'll leave that to your grandmother) I will share a few things that make it all a little easier.

A good fragrance is super important this time of year. And while everyone else is throwing away the floral scents in hope of dark amber & musk for winter, you'll find me sticking to the lighter & less offensive smells. Why may you ask? Well if you are anything like me the mere whiff of patchouli/musk/amber makes me super nauseous, and if you sit next to me with something like that on then I will more than likely have to move to save your shoes from throw up.

So when you are in a room filled with people wearing a mishmash of certain 'musky' winter scents, it all leaves me feeling a little light headed and sprinting out the door - and that's without a drink!

Therefore I like to stick to something clean, elegant and less offensive that won't put up a fight against the likes of 'FlowerBomb', 'Black Orchid' or my least personal favorite, the dreaded 'Angel'.

Skincare is also as important this time of year. Facial oils are something that has taken the beauty world by a storm this year and it is easy to see why. With a blend of oils to keep skin nourished, it starts paying itself after all they late nights, the cold air, the constant application & removal of makeup - facial oils are worth their weight in gold. Throw in a thick hand cream and you will be fighting the winter chill with no effort required.

When it comes to ready to go makeup, think compacts. A handy little cube with as much of your face makeup packed into it as possible. Again companies like Bobbi Brown and Nars do this so well. Look for a compact with at least two different functions, eg, eyeshadow & lipstick or blushes & bronzers, they will save a heap of space in your makeup bag.

Also if you are squeezing in individual products, aim for thin compact packaging. Marc Jacobs are experts in sleek & streamlined cases here, and they are perfect for one the go applications.

And lastly, if you are like me and are a part of the GHD religion, then here's a trick I learned from a former work colleague (yes Hannah, all eyes on you!). Keep a pair of straighteners in your drawer at work. Sounds super crazy to be taking up valuable drawer real estate but hear me out here. Think, it's a rainy morning, you've been blown about nine ways to Sunday and your hair is less that flawless as it was when you left the house. Keeping a little mirror, a brush and your GHD's at your desk eliminates the post-commute frizz and keeps you feeling a little more put together than why you first came in - it only takes a few minutes to sort out your hair and everyone will be wondering how they never thought of it before.

The Fashion Edit: Laid-back Luxe

Autumn is well and truly here, and it is the season of mixed seasons. One second the sun is splitting the trees, and the next we are bundled up in our winter woolies, clutching a steaming cup of coffee.

Which in all seasons are fun, but they are hard to dress for. I personally like layering up different textures to keep things interesting - as we can all get lost in big scarves & thick sweaters!

The Laid-back Luxe Edit

The first item in my edit is a woolen coat. I think these are essential for the colder months. Easy to layer and even easier to snuggle up in, a big-ass blanket coat is what you will find me in this season!

Harris Warf London Wool Felt Coat - £335

For layering under I love sticking to the shirt/jeans combo. You can easily layer a warm cami under a shirt for even more warmth. And jeans are a no-brainer. I like sticking to black jeans in winter as they go great with leather booties and a great base colour.

J.Crew Cotton Chambray Shirt - £80
J Brand Amelia Jeans - £190

When it comes to footwear I like keeping it casual with a smart pair of Gazelles. A staple in any fashion girls wardrobe, they are super easy to throw on and if in a neutral colour, will go with everything.

Adidas Originals - £80

And lastly, for accessories, I like to keep it simple but with a luxe edge. Gucci is killing it with their revamped bags and this one is no different. Keep it black and keep it small for a chic look.

Gucci GG Marmont Camera bag - £585

A scarf is an essential for trans-seasonal dressing. I love Alexander McQueen for these so it was a given it would be featured in my edit. Keep it black to match your bag, but keep it light to avoid bulk. A sparse but non-offensive pattern will create texture and interest - but won't look garish to avoid looking cheap.

Alexander McQueen Printed Silk-Chiffon Scarf - £245

And finally, we have jewelry. I like to keep it classy. Let one item be a pop of 'classy' colour to draw attention, and keep earrings to a minimum. A simple hoop is a classic edge on an outfit to keep it current and elegant - we may be wearing trainers, but we are still ladies here!

Pascale Monvoisin 9-karat Rose gold ring - £505
Carolina Bucci Rose Gold Hoop Earrings - £725

And that is how you can wrap up warm while still looking cool...

The Beauty Edit - 7 Things to Buy This Week

Pink is a theme I have been seeing a lot recently. Glowing skins and perfect flushes were all over the A/W '16 catwalks.

It can be really hard to find products that give you the perfect preened look, without looking like a cartoon character, hence why I have collated a smorgasbord of the best of the best to help you achieve  the latest looks, fuss free!

1) Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit - This has been on every blogger's radar since May. And you can see why! From the super Instagram-able packaging to the buttery highlighting powders encased inside. This is one for the Christmas lists.

2) Hourglass Mineral Veil Primer - Again, Hourglass killed it again with the glowy bases. This primer promises to blur the face to a primed and flawless perfection. And it does just that. It's a primer that will work for all skin types, tones & textures.

3) Victoria Beckham X Esteé Lauder Highlighter - When Queen VB collaborated with beauty queens Esteé Lauder, the whole beauty world stood to attention, waited with baited breath and counted down the days until we could get our perfectly painted paws on it. And it was better than all of our expectations. This perfect flushed highlighter gives the warmest, pearl glow that complements the touch of bronzer that we are loading onto our faces in denial of our summer tan fading.

4) Charlotte Tilbury Hot Lips in Kim KW - Yes. I bought this because of Kim K herself. But hear me out on this one. I struggle to find a perfect pinky/nude for my skin tone. As someone who is a shade lighter than Kim Kardashian, I jumped on this as soon as it launched. I honestly thought I would have another case of the 'foundation lips' with this one, but it was perfect. If you like a perfect neutral toned pink, this one is for you.

5) Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Iconic Nude - A slight carry on from the above lipstick, but this lip liner is the perfect base for a nude lip. It's a far cry from the 90's brown lips trend, but you didn't want to remember them anyway did you?

6) Nars Sheer Glow Foundation - A perfect base for the perfect glowy skin starts with Sheer Glow. A cult foundation for a reason, you will find it in every makeup artist's kit!

7) Anya Hindmarch Cosmetics Case - With every new product comes a cute case to store it, right? This has been on my radar for a while. Storing the right amount of your day-to-day products, this ensures you never carry too much! Plus the wipe down fabric is great for grubby fingers. Not that you have any!

Now do I look like a runway model yet?

Welcome to the THE WEDNESDAY EDIT

Change is great in my opinion. Here at HQ we were feeling inspired to change, create even better content and become the media powerhouse that we have always dreamed of.

I started my site (which you will all know), The Vogue Chronicles, six years ago in my bedroom. SIX. I've loved and laughed my way through those years with a sense of melancholy and blissfully unaware of any negative vibes.

However, something changed that. Our name. The Vogue Chronicles. It was being tarnished by a publication of a similar name and nature, forcing all our hard work in the bin and into losing our company.

I cried. And I couldn't stop crying. Everything I had worked for to build my company was gone. The Vogue Chronicles was more than a 'silly online blog', it was my lifestyle, my hub and my place on the internet that I had created with like-minded people in mind to share content and inspire others.

Contrary to the words I was hastily barked at in light of this information, The Vogue Chronicles were not bootleggers on a famous publication's fame. We were not copycats. We were a strong, independent, and mature company who believed in the beautiful things in life. Not to make money. Not to find fame. And not to bring anyone else down.

But most of all, we can see that change is, in fact, good.

In light of that, this is all I have to say as a rebuttal on the matter;

"You can fear the rise of the bloggers, you can even try and tear us down. But bloggers are what is keeping media alive. You may say that "street style is killing high fashion", but I say fuck that, get over it. We are here now and we here to stay. Listen to your audience and embrace the change."

The change gives you the chance to reinvent yourself, your life and how you want to be portrayed.

So I say this. We are all Wednesday's. And this my friends, this is your edit.

I know that you are all supportive. I know that none of you will tear me down. I hope that this can inspire you all to always stand up for what you believe in, your rights and how you want to be perceived.

I have created The Wednesday Edit with you all in mind. I am embracing the change. With a new name comes new content and a new schedule, but we will have the same feeling as you all know and love from us.

So we will have to bid The Vogue Chronicles adieu for now. It was a great run and I am terribly fond of the name that brought me into this world. But alas we have now to say goodbye, but we will come back fighting even stronger.

Well, where does that leave us? With a snazzy new name and better content. However, I hear you cry for 'TVC'. Well, we are keeping that. You will still have your fashion, beauty and lifestyle roundups. You'll still hear about what I am loving and where I think is great for a city break. It's the same ol' layout just with a few more bells and whistles!

I would now love to introduce you to 'The Wednesday's Edits"

The Life Edit - Every 2nd Friday
The Monthly Edit - Every last Saturday

All I can say to you all who have followed me for all these years is thank you. Thank you so much for building me up and commenting, liking and generally just being the best people that I have ever known. You are all fantastic and I am well and truly sorry for what has happened. I tried to fight against it, but I decided to embrace the change. I hope you all can to and welcome home to your patch of the internet, The Wednesday Edit.

Here's to the next adventure!

Thank you all from the bottom of my heart
