The Skincare Edit: Glowy Winter Skin

As much as I just love winter, I hate what it does to my skin. I normally have combination skin with the odd spot here and there. But in the winter my skin develops a scaly texture and is ever so unbearably dry - but somehow still oily!

I have never been one for skincare. In fact, the sheer swipe of a makeup wipe and the occasional dab of Clinique's moisturizer and I was done. (I can actually hear my hero Caroline Hirons recoil in horror at the thought of a makeup wipe - sorry love!) However, now I'm in my twenties I really took a strong stance in the skincare department. I started researching what my oily skin needed and with the help of Mrs. Hirons's blog above, I managed to understand the needs of my skin and the products to do just that.

The first thing I upgraded to was a cleansing balm. Now I know there are a few on the market, but I can make a strong case for this one from Omorovicza. Charcoal is a product that I love using on my skin thanks to its spot clearing properties and blackhead fighting nature, which if you are an oily gal like me, is a common problem. This really helps to cleanse my skin after using my Superfacialist by Una Brenan Oil to take off my makeup, so it is going straight onto cleansed skin to get the full potential.

Following from that another item I opted to include every other day into my routine was the Nip + Fab Glycolic Fix Exfoliating Pads. I use these around three times a week to remove dead skin, keep spots at bay and help my skin to glow. And apparently, Kendall Jenner uses them too.

I also upgraded my moisturizer from Omorovicza, opting for a rich but light texture with an illuminating finish to beat winter dullness. This does all of the above without clogging my pores, which really is a godsend.

When it comes to masks, I still love a clay mask. In particular the new clay masks from L'oreal (below). But with so much clay to draw out impurities, I need something to put back the moisture in my skin. Enter Liz Earle's night concentrate. It's light enough to again not clog my pores but provides enough moisture to repair my skin overnight.

I know winter can be daunting to skin. With the mulled wine flowing and the late nights can take a toll on our skin. So keeping the glow requires a semi-easy skincare routine and I know I sound like your granny here but, a lot of water consumption. Trust me, it will save the hangover too.

Merry Glo-mas!
